Research interest
Risk factors for heart disease, stroke, cognitive impairment / dementia, and venous thrombosis. Connections between cardiovascular and brain health, and vascular origins of cognitive impairment. BIO Dr. Cushman studies risk factors for heart disease, stroke, cognitive impairment / dementia, venous thrombosis and risk factors for these using molecular epidemiology approaches. She is interested in the connections of cardiovascular and brain health, and vascular origins of cognitive impairment. During the pandemic, Dr. Cushman engaged in designing and conducting treatment trials in COVID-19 and studies of COVID-19 epidemiology. She has held leadership roles in a number of NIH-funded observational epidemiology studies, notably the Reasons for Geographic and Racial Differences in Stroke (REGARD
