Professor Antonio Gasbarrini, born in Bologna on October 11, 1963, is Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, Full Professor of Internal Medicine, and Director of the Department of Medical and Surgical Sciences and the Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology Unit at the Fondazione Policlinico Universitario A. Gemelli IRCCS in Rome. He graduated with honors in Medicine and Surgery in 1988 from the University of Bologna and specializes in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy. He served as a Clinical and Research Fellow in Gastroenterology at the Liver Transplantation Department of the University of Pittsburgh (USA) from 1990 to 1993. He is an editor or associate editor of numerous international scientific journals and a member of numerous Italian and international scientific societies. From 2006 to 2008, he was Secretary of the Italian Liver Study Association (AISF) and from 2008 to 2011, President of the Italian Foundation for Research in Hepatology (FIRE). He is a member of the Board of Directors of the European Helicobacter and Microbiota Study Group (EHMSG) and the European Association of Gastroenterology Endoscopy and Nutrition (EAGEN). He is a member of the scientific committees of the United European Gastroenterology (UEG) and the Italian Celiac Association (AIC). He has received numerous national and international awards and is the author of over 900 publications cited in PubMed. He has an impact factor for published works of over 2,500, an overall H-index of over 80, and his works have been cited more than 30,000 times.
