Representative work: Epidemiological studies have linked uric acid (UA), the end product of purine metabolism in humans, with reduced Alzheimer's disease (AD) risk. Decreased serum UA levels are observed in AD patients versus age-matched controls, while upstream purine metabolites remained unchanged.
